Civics Project
19th Amendment Project for U.S. Government/Civics Guidelines
In groups of 4 to 6 students each group will pick one person from the following list to research their impact on the passage of the 19th amendment, which gave women the right to vote:
Abigail Adams
Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Susan B. Anthony
Sojourner Truth
Frederick Douglas
Harry T. Burn
Lucretia Mott
Woodrow Wilson
Students will explore the history of the Women’s Suffrage Movement and beyond through the struggles and achievements of the extraordinary women and men who made significant and lasting contributions to human rights in the United States and around the globe.
Students will research what it meant to be a suffragette and they will come up with a power point displaying their chosen person and what they contributed to the movement that eventually gave women the right to vote along with the important part the state of Tennessee had to play in ensuring the passage of the 19th amendment. Each member of each student group will participate and contribute to the project. They will research the figure of the movement they have chosen and create a detailed power point to present to the class when they complete the project.
This will count as the students state mandated civics project as set forth by Tennessee state law.
